Hilton Beach tax sales

Hilton Beach has no tax sale open right now, and we have no Ontario Gazette notice from it on record since 2018. The Village of Hilton Beach runs its own sales through its treasurer's office.

How to bid on a Hilton Beach tax sale

Most Ontario tax sales are sealed tenders with one chance to bid. There is no second round.

  1. Get the tender form (Form 7) from the Village of Hilton Beach or the Government of Ontario's forms site.
  2. Bid at least the minimum tender amount, and attach a deposit of at least 20 percent of your bid by money order, bank draft or certified cheque made out to the Village of Hilton Beach.
  3. Seal it in an envelope addressed to the treasurer, marked as a tax sale and naming the property. It must reach the office by the deadline on closing day, which the rules set at 3:00 p.m. local time.
  4. The highest valid bid wins. The winner has 14 days from the day the treasurer's notice is mailed to pay the balance, land transfer tax and any taxes that have built up since.

You cannot go onto the property first, someone may be living there, and a sale can be cancelled right up to the end. Read how Ontario tax sales work before you bid.

Hilton Beach tax sale questions

Is there a Hilton Beach tax sale right now?

No. Hilton Beach has no tax sale open right now, and we have no Ontario Gazette notice from it on record since 2018.

How often does Hilton Beach hold tax sales?

There is no fixed schedule. A sale can follow once taxes on a property have gone unpaid long enough and a one-year redemption period has run out.

Where are Hilton Beach tax sales advertised?

Every Ontario tax sale must be advertised once in the Ontario Gazette and once a week for four weeks in a local newspaper. Where there is no suitable newspaper, the notice is posted at the municipal office and one other prominent place instead.

What is the minimum bid at a Hilton Beach tax sale?

The minimum is the cancellation price: the unpaid taxes plus penalties, interest and the municipality's costs. It has nothing to do with what the land is worth.
