How to bid on a Scugog Township tax sale
Most Ontario tax sales are sealed tenders with one chance to bid. There is no second round.
- Get the tender form (Form 7) from the Township of Scugog or the Government of Ontario's forms site.
- Bid at least the minimum tender amount, and attach a deposit of at least 20 percent of your bid by money order, bank draft or certified cheque made out to the Township of Scugog.
- Seal it in an envelope addressed to the treasurer, marked as a tax sale and naming the property. It must reach the office by the deadline on closing day, which the rules set at 3:00 p.m. local time.
- The highest valid bid wins. The winner has 14 days from the day the treasurer's notice is mailed to pay the balance, land transfer tax and any taxes that have built up since.
You cannot go onto the property first, someone may be living there, and a sale can be cancelled right up to the end. Read how Ontario tax sales work before you bid.

Yes. Scugog Township has 10 properties open for bids, and bids close on Thursday, November 26, 2026.
How often does Scugog Township hold tax sales?
There is no fixed schedule. A sale can follow once taxes on a property have gone unpaid long enough and a one-year redemption period has run out.
Where are Scugog Township tax sales advertised?
Every Ontario tax sale must be advertised once in the Ontario Gazette and once a week for four weeks in a local newspaper. Where there is no suitable newspaper, the notice is posted at the municipal office and one other prominent place instead.
What is the minimum bid at a Scugog Township tax sale?
The minimum is the cancellation price: the unpaid taxes plus penalties, interest and the municipality's costs. It has nothing to do with what the land is worth.
