How to bid on a Woodstock tax sale
Most Ontario tax sales are sealed tenders with one chance to bid. There is no second round.
- Get the tender form (Form 7) from the City of Woodstock or the Government of Ontario's forms site.
- Bid at least the minimum tender amount, and attach a deposit of at least 20 percent of your bid by money order, bank draft or certified cheque made out to the City of Woodstock.
- Seal it in an envelope addressed to the treasurer, marked as a tax sale and naming the property. It must reach the office by the deadline on closing day, which the rules set at 3:00 p.m. local time.
- The highest valid bid wins. The winner has 14 days from the day the treasurer's notice is mailed to pay the balance, land transfer tax and any taxes that have built up since.
You cannot go onto the property first, someone may be living there, and a sale can be cancelled right up to the end. Read how Ontario tax sales work before you bid.
